Craft Show

The show was a good experience for me to see how things work and need to be done.  That said, I did not do very well in sales, as I only sold one thing, and lost more money than I made.  This seems to be a recuring theme with my sales on and off-line and I know I am not a pro by any means and I want to stop this trend, as it is expensive!  I have the same questions each time, as in- How much is too much?  Will my things sell in this market, and if so what price range?  and etc. etc.  I have very little money and if I price things at a level I could afford, it seems too cheaply priced and I get very little interest in my items.  But, if I price according to my time, materials, any added expenses like gas, mileage, postage, etc.  that too seems to not work!  My sales on Etsy have not been very much and I thank God I don't have to live off of the profits because I would have been homeless a long time ago!   I love to create things and make my ideas into reality and I will continue to make things but I do say it is very discouraging!

Craft Sale

Been a long time since I posted, but I think I finally have something to talk about.  This coming Saturday, November 6, I am planning on selling at the Ames Progressive craft/art sale.  I have sold things only once before this and I am more than a little nervous.  I never know how to price!  Just like on Etsy, if it's too high nobody will buy it, too low, nobody buys it, then I feel like I don't get what I need to make a profit or cover time and expenses.  I know I need to gauge it by audience, BUT I also think of what I could afford, and it isn't much, so the problem continues.

I need to borrow a table, so I need to call somebody.  I think I will set it up at home first, so I can get an idea of what it will look like. I hate it that I have to take taxes too!  Why is this always a requirement?  I am not a business, or even make that much money doing this! Seems like the "man" always wants a cut no matter how much or how little a person makes.  But I wont get started on that topic now!

If you are around ISU or Ames Iowa this Saturday check out the Progressive.  Don't forget Christmas is coming, so presents could be bought.

Life Happens When We're Having Fun

Wow, been a while since I blogged.  Busy, busy- The truck broke down, of course, thank goodness it wasn't the same weekend I went to Market Day in Des Moines.  Went to the park to walk and took the dog and when I left there was a dead snake at the entrance, freaked me out but was so glad it was dead.  I love animals but snakes, ? not a fan!  Been afraid to go back though and hopefully it will be gone when I go back.  YUK!

People cease to amaze me too, how they can be so rude online and wouldn't dream of acting that way in person.  I'm sure you know what I mean, everyone that is online has probably experienced this at one time or another.  Started to play Farmville and those people have been great, but I guess if you aren't, how are you going to get help or gifts?

Market Day

If you live in or around the Ames/Des Moines Iowa area you have probably heard of Market Day which is a gathering of artistic and creative people that make art, clothing, jewelry, etc. and add some vintage to the mix and Viola! Another fun-filled Saturday full of treasures to buy, ogle over, envy, and be down right jealous because you didn't think of the idea first!  I am very inspired to do this now that I saw what it's all about.  I have a lot of ideas in my head but I need to get them out on paper or started into projects.  Go to http://www.marketdayiowa.com/ for more info and you may even want to enter into this fun world yourself.

Etsy Shop

I got the links set up to everything so I am set with all of my online stuff. As I sit here and blog, I can see my dog blissfully sleeping on the couch, which he does a lot. He can sleep anywhere it seems, but never on the floor! I know I have spoiled him and that is why he does not listen when I call him like he did earlier today. I had to say his name "Mickey" probably 5-7 times before he finally came into the same room as me. Aaaaaahhhhhh to be so carefree, defiant, and bratty all at the same time! He just doesn't know how cushy his life is and in his dog-ness doesn't even care. I am so glad he isn't a kid, as I am sure my life would be rather stressful with all the rebellion going on. He is like a kid and I have let him and other dogs I have owned get by with more than I should. I have read the Ceasar Milan books and I am guilty of treating my dogs like people instead of animals and thus, suffering the consequences of my actions with the behavior issues. I know I only have myself to blame though.

Power outage #2

I know there are really small fans that run on batteries, but I want a big one. I don't know if I could take the cord from a floor fan and split it and hook the wires to one of those square batteries and have it work or not, just something I was wondering. I am not brave enough to try it though. Also, the show I was talking about is Shark Tank not Shark.

weather

We had a power outage from a storm Sunday morning and finally got power last night (Monday), but this is the first time I had a chance to sit down to post anything. This is the first time in my life I have not had power this long, about 36 hours, but the times I have gone camping do not count of course. I cannot say I had fun by any means, but I can say that I did like being able to go out to eat, which is something I do not do a lot. It was hot all those hours and even if I could have had a working fan, I would have been happy. I wondered if there is such a thing as a fan that runs on batteries? If not, I should go on the Shark show and pitch it! I however do not know anything about electronics or business so I can't even make an example to show them! Is there anyone out there that could help? Me and my ideas, I always seem to think of the weirdest things and of course my ideas never go anywhere, but I think what if I could have one big break, I could make millions and my problems would be solved! What a laugh though, to be realistic, it would probably cause more problems with all that money, I would have relatives from Kathmandu!

On being a blogger

This is my second day at this and it has been fun and a learning experience both. I am sure I have vowed to never do a blog, but nonetheless, here I am doing it! I hate to admit that I didn't want to do it because I didn't know how to even start one. I may have half-heartedly looked up information on how to but decided that nobody wants to read what I have to say. But, as luck would have it, the kind lady who is doing the giveaway http://www.beingtazim.com has helped me and has been patient both, (thanks tons for everything!) If not for her, I doubt I would even be doing this! So, there will be more written in the weeks ahead.

Giveaway on my Etsy shop

There will be a giveaway planned by a really kind person who will feature an item from my shop on Etsy- Just go to http://www.beingtazim.com for more details.
